Kitchen Remodeling on the South Shore
Layout first, finishes second. That is how we approach kitchen remodeling on the South Shore: move the walls, relocate the plumbing, rewire what needs it, then build the kitchen you actually use on top of that.
The room everyone uses and nobody enjoys
Two people cannot cook at the same time. Meanwhile, the dishwasher door blocks the drawer you need. There is no counter beside the stove, the outlets are in the wrong places, and half the cabinets hold things you have not touched in five years.
In fact, most kitchens on the South Shore were laid out for a different way of living. Closed off from the rest of the house, sized for one cook, built before anyone did homework at the counter.
None of that gets fixed by new cabinet doors. Kitchen remodeling on the South Shore starts here instead, with the walls open, before a single cabinet is ordered.

Kitchen remodeling on the South Shore, finished

Kitchen remodeling on the South Shore: six parts, and the order matters
Otherwise, skipping to the finishes is how a kitchen ends up looking new and working exactly the same. Kitchen remodeling on the South Shore is decided in this order, not in a showroom.
Layout and design
Where the sink, range and refrigerator sit relative to each other decides whether the kitchen works. So we start there, before anyone picks a countertop.
Walls and structure
Opening a kitchen into a dining or living room usually means removing a wall. If it carries load, it needs an engineered header and support down to the foundation.
Plumbing and electrical
Moving the sink or adding an island means moving supply lines and drains. Similarly, outlets, under-cabinet lighting and dedicated circuits mean opening walls. We pull the permits for both.
Cabinetry
Stock, semi-custom or full custom. In each case we tell you where the money makes a difference and where it does not, before you order.
Countertops and backsplash
Quartz, granite, butcher block or solid surface. In every case, templated and installed after the cabinets are set, never before.
Flooring, trim and paint
The finish work that decides whether the kitchen reads as a remodel or as part of the house it sits in.
We open the walls before we choose the finishes.
That is the whole differenceOne company, start to finish
A kitchen is five trades in one room: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tile and finish. On most jobs that means five companies and a schedule nobody owns. Because of that, kitchen remodeling on the South Shore usually stalls between the trades rather than during them.
You hire one. You are not scheduling a carpenter, then a plumber, then an electrician, then a tile setter, and hoping they arrive in the right order.
- One contract for the whole kitchen, not one per trade
- Permits pulled and inspections managed with your town
- Your own site manager on the job, not just a phone number
- Everything itemized in writing, before demolition
- Temporary kitchen set up before we open the real one

What moves the price of kitchen remodeling on the South Shore
Kitchen remodeling on the South Shore has no single price. The same square footage can cost three different amounts depending on decisions you make. Nobody gives you a real number over the phone, and anyone who does is guessing.
What raises it:
- Moving the sink, range or refrigerator. Each one means plumbing or electrical inside walls and floors
- Removing a load-bearing wall. An engineered header and support down to the foundation
- Custom cabinetry instead of stock or semi-custom. Usually the single biggest swing in the project
- Stone counters with complex edges, waterfall ends or full-height backsplash
- Rewiring an older house that does not have the circuits a modern kitchen needs
What keeps it down: keeping the existing layout, semi-custom cabinetry instead of full custom, and choosing everything before demolition so nothing stalls mid-project.
When we are not the right call
If you only want new cabinet doors and the same layout, a refacing company will do it cheaper and faster than we will.
If nothing is moving and nothing is opening up, a dedicated kitchen installer may be a better fit on price.
We are worth it when walls are moving, when plumbing or electrical has to be relocated, or when the kitchen is part of a bigger change to the house. That is where a builder matters and an installer does not.
Kitchen remodeling questions homeowners ask
Timeline, layout and living through the work
How long will I be without a kitchen?
In most cases, plan on several weeks. We set up a temporary kitchen space before demolition so you are not eating out the entire time, and you get the dates in writing before we start.
Can you open the kitchen into the living room?
Usually yes, but it depends on whether the wall carries load. If it does, it needs a properly sized header and support down to the foundation. In any case, we evaluate that before quoting, so the number does not change halfway through.
Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen in Massachusetts?
If you are moving plumbing, changing electrical or altering structure, yes. However, replacing cabinets and counters in the same layout often does not require one. We tell you which category your project falls into at the estimate, not after.
Permits and licensing for kitchen remodeling on the South Shore
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Both, and you should know which is which. Of course, our own people do the carpentry, framing and finish work. Licensed plumbers and electricians handle their trades, because Massachusetts law requires a licensed trade for that work. Either way, they work on our schedule and we are responsible for all of it.
Should I buy my own appliances and fixtures?
Of course you can, and many homeowners do. Just buy them before we start and have them on site, because a project waiting on a delivery is the one delay nobody can make up. For example, a backordered range is the most common avoidable delay in kitchen work.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold an Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License in Massachusetts, which is the license the state requires to do structural work, and we carry liability and workers compensation insurance. Ask any contractor for their license and their certificate of insurance before you sign, and be careful with anyone who hesitates. Registrations can be checked with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
