Siding Contractor on the South Shore
Near the water, rain does not fall. It arrives sideways and gets behind everything. Siding contractors on the South Shore are really hired for the two layers underneath: the water-resistive barrier and the flashing at every opening.
Siding is a rain screen, not a raincoat
Every siding product leaks. That is not a defect, it is how they work. Wind-driven rain gets behind a lap, a butt joint or a nail head, and the system is designed on the assumption that it will.
What decides whether that water leaves or stays is the layer behind it. A proper water-resistive barrier, lapped the right way so water runs over the joint rather than into it. Flashing above every window and door, at every change of material, and at the bottom so water can get out again.
Done right, you never think about any of it. Done wrong, the house looks new for a decade while the sheathing behind it goes soft, and you find out when someone opens a wall for something else entirely.

Siding contractors on the South Shore: what is behind the boards
Six parts, and only two of them are the part you can see from the street.
Tear-off and sheathing inspection
We strip to the sheathing and look. Soft spots under windows and at the base of walls are where water has been going, and finding them now is far cheaper than finding them later. So the repair gets priced before anything is covered.
Water-resistive barrier
House wrap or a built-in barrier, lapped shingle-style so water runs over each joint. Taped where it needs to be taped. This is the layer that actually keeps the house dry.
Flashing and trim integration
Head flashing over every window and door, pan flashing at sills, kick-out flashing where a roof meets a wall. However, that last one is the detail skipped most often, and it is the one that rots a corner from the inside.
Fiber cement and engineered wood
James Hardie and LP SmartSide, installed to each manufacturer's specification. We hold preferred installer status with both, which is what keeps their warranty intact.
Trim, corners and soffit
Corner boards, window and door casing, frieze, soffit and fascia. In other words, the parts that make new siding read as part of the house instead of as a wrapper on it.
Permits and cleanup
Pulled with your town, inspected where required, and the property swept before we leave.
Every siding leaks. The layer behind it is the job.
That is what the warranty is really aboutPreferred installer, and a builder underneath
We are a James Hardie Alliance Preferred Contractor and an LP SmartSide Preferred Contractor. That status is not a sticker: it means the manufacturer has accepted that we install to their specification, which is the condition most product warranties are actually written on.
The other half matters more. When the sheathing under your siding turns out to be soft, that is framing work, and most siding contractors on the South Shore are not framers. Because of that, a siding crew hits a wall and a building company keeps going.
- Strip to the sheathing and show you what is there before covering it
- Water-resistive barrier lapped correctly, not just stapled on
- New flashing at every opening, including kick-out flashing at roof-wall joints
- Installed to James Hardie and LP SmartSide specification
- Permits pulled and everything itemized in writing

What the boards go over
How a siding contractor on the South Shore runs the job
Free on-site visit
First we walk the house, look at the corners, the base of the walls and under the windows, and check where the roof meets a wall.
Estimate and selections
Then comes a written estimate with the scope itemized, including a per-sheet price for sheathing if we find rot, so the number does not change from the driveway.
Permit
Pulled with your town, before anything comes off the house.
Tear-off, repair and install
Strip, inspect, repair, barrier, flash, side, trim. Then the cleanup and the walkthrough.
What a siding contractor on the South Shore costs
Two quotes on the same house can differ by a lot, and the product is usually not why.
What raises it:
- Rotten sheathing found at tear-off. Common on older houses and not fully predictable
- Height and access. Three stories, steep grade or tight lot lines change the staging
- Trim detail. Wide corner boards, custom casing and architectural details are labor
- Fiber cement over vinyl. Heavier product, more cutting, more labor, longer life
- Number of openings. Every window is flashing, trim and cuts
What keeps it down: a simple two-story box with few openings, sound sheathing underneath, and engineered wood rather than fiber cement where it suits the house. After the on-site visit you get a written estimate with the scope itemized.
When we are not the right call
If you want siding installed over the existing siding, we will not. It buries whatever is wrong underneath and makes the flashing at every window a guess.
There is always a cheaper siding contractor on the South Shore, and someone will staple house wrap on backwards, reuse your flashing and be done in four days. The house will look new either way.
We are worth it when you want the wall behind the siding to be dry, and when you want the manufacturer's warranty to survive a claim.
Siding questions homeowners ask
Products, warranty and the coast
Fiber cement or engineered wood?
James Hardie fiber cement is heavier, holds paint for a long time and does not care about sun. LP SmartSide is lighter, easier to work and takes impact better. In each case the right answer depends on the house and the exposure, and we install both to spec.
Does it matter that you are a preferred contractor?
It matters for the warranty. Manufacturer warranties are written on the assumption the product was installed to their specification, and preferred status means they have accepted that we do. For example, fastener type and spacing near the coast is exactly the kind of detail a claim turns on.
Will new siding stop my house from being drafty?
Partly. Air sealing and insulation do more, but a siding job is the one moment the wall is open from outside, so it is the cheapest time to improve both. We tell you what is worth doing while we are there.
Permits, timing and licensing for siding contractors on the South Shore
Do I need a permit to re-side a house?
Yes in most South Shore towns, and we pull it.
How long does it take?
Most houses are one to two weeks, depending on size, height and how much sheathing has to be replaced. Of course weather moves the schedule and we tell you when it does.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold an Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License in Massachusetts and carry liability and workers compensation insurance. Ask any contractor for the certificate of insurance before staging goes up against your house. Registrations can be checked with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
